The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program at Westerville South

The deadline for submitting an application for an IB administrative placement to South High School will be March 15, 2023. All applications received after that date will be placed on a waiting list. Internal applications received after May 1 will not be considered.  Please note, a student may not be on the IB Administrative Placement list and the Open Enrollment list at the same time.

IB Enrollment

The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) states that all students participating in the program must be enrolled at the approved IB school. Therefore, any student who wants to participate must be enrolled at Westerville South High School. For students whose home school is not South, enrollment at South can occur through the following procedures:

  • IB Administratively Placed
Any student who wants to participate in the IB program and is assigned a home school other than South can be enrolled at South by being administratively placed to participate in IB. Students are required to complete two IB courses within their junior and senior years. Students who are not enrolled in the prescribed IB coursework will be required to return to their home school of residence.
  • Lottery/Open enrollment
All students who are assigned a home school other than South but are enrolled at South through the lottery may participate in IB. Students who are not enrolled in the prescribed IB coursework will not be required to return to their home school of residence.

Participation in the Program

Students may participate in the IB program as a diploma candidate or as a course candidate.

An IB Diploma Program (IBDP) candidate will complete courses in each of the 6 content areas and the three core requirements (the Extended Essay, the Theory of Knowledge course and the Creativity, Activity and Service) components of the program.

An IB Course candidate may select individual courses for participation based on students' strengths and interests.  However, students who are administratively placed at Westerville South for the IB Program must commit to enrolling in and completing two IB courses over the span of their junior and senior year.
